French Observations

Paris, Apr. 14.

The centre of political, aerial, and naval conflict shifted to the Skager Rak and the Kattegat yesterday as the Allied success in mining the whole North Sea coast line of Germany, Denmark and Norwegian and Swedish waters virtually cut off German sea communication with her forces of occupation in Scandinavia.

Vital importance was attached to Swedish neutrality, as Sweden possesses a direct railroad from Malmo and Gothenburg to Oslo over which Germany could relieve and strengthen the German Army in south Norway. having been completed in 1935. Since the commencement of the naval battle off Norway; the Germans lost ten destroyers. These naval circles, counting only the officially-announced German losses, consider the Narvik battle a disaster for the German navy. They stress that the are now masters of the waters round that port.

"This victory cannot fail to facilitate the landing of Allied troops on the Norwegian coast when this operation is undertaken, these quarters concluded.—Havas.
