What a wonderful record had been established. Three generations of hunts and in the third generation all three sons had won their pinks. It is a singular fact, too, that all three sons won their pinks in hunts laid by Herbert Spence. It was a great for young Tiefenbacher, too, as he sails for Germany in a few days and it will be many years before he has a chance of riding in another hunt.
The card, as could only be expected, consisted entirely of crossbred ponies; in fact, the first eight to} finish were on crossbreds, and the regret expressed by most people was that this robbed the Challenge Cup—classic steeplechase of the Paper Hunt Club—of a fifth starter, as only four ponies have qualified. or a bit and then on to dear old Swansong, which was as big and good as ever. The next platform brought the field to the stone bridge crossing of the Rubicon Creek at My Corner fand paper led on to Christmas Line Platform and via the stone bridges to the usual handicap run to Sa Ka Dong and then right, down the Sa Ka Dong Line to the finish. Well, it is nearly time again to hang up the old red rag' as Jorrocks said, for another season, but there is this good news, that all being well there will be another hunt next Sunday—the day after the Paperhunt races, and tha good news completes a grand weekend.
It would not be proper to finish this account without reference to the pleasure it gave to everyone to see riders wearing pink coats again
