Conservatism Wins

Budapest, May 31.

Although increasing their representation from five to 25 seats, the Nazis have experienced & sharp rebuff in the Hungarian General Election.

In the hope of gaining the majority of the 252 seats in the new Lower Chamber, they entered 180 candidates, but the majority of these were dè- feated.

The election may be regarded as a striking victory for the Government parties, representing moderate con-servetism, as the Government bloc secured 199 seats, an: increase of 78, against the 69 seats of the combined Right and Left Wing opposition parties and independents.

With their 25 seats, the Nazis will be the biggest opposition party in the Chamber, superseding the Independent Agrarian Party, the strength of which has dwindled from 26 seats to nine—Reuter.
