Japanese Shensi Drive Reported Begun

Correspondent Says Troops — Seen in Red Areas

Hankow, June 25.

Indicating that the rumoured Japanese thrust into Shensi towards Sian may have begun, two hundred Japanese troops, which, it is thought here, are probably the vanguard of the Japanese forces pushing into Shensi, were recently sighted in north Shensi about 80 miles from Yennan, which is about 180 miles north of Sian.

This news was conveyed by Sir Anthony Jenkinson, correspondent of the "Daily Sketch; London, who arrived here yesterday morning from Sian.

Sir Anthony is probably the first foreigner to make the journey by irom since the interruption of the Peiping-Hankow Lunghai railways' through traffic at Chengchow.

Traffic was cut off when the junction at Chengchow was threatened by the Japanese forces a fortnight ago.
