RILLIANT weather, excellent racing and a big crowd of spectators combined to make the concluding day of the Shanghai Paper Hunt Club's races a great success and put everyone in a wonderful mood for the annual dinner, which was held last night at the Shanghai Club. Riding honours went to John Sparke, who won the Stewards's Cup on Whisky Tansan, the big race on Gold Vase and the seller on White Whiskers from the home stable. White Whiskers was sold after the seller to Liddell and is a grand type to succeed- famous old 'Dick.'
Sparke had a bad ride in the 'Z' class Champions on Lemberg. The pony appeared mad, bolted the minute he got on the course and careered madly three times round the course. He was quietly fancied for the race but of course after this had had quite enough and was withdrawn. Lok and Grgm had a couple of winners apiece, whilst Parkin, Morgan, Brand and Chris Moller all rode one winner.
Whisky Tansan's performances in the Stewards Cup are really remarkable. He fell the first year he ran and has now won for the last four years in succession.
