Raging Favourite

Whisky Tansan started a raging favourite for. the Stewards Cup Steeplechase and, if anything, jumped better than ever before, despite a slight mistake at the Grand Stand Wall, where he took a chance and knocked a bit of a hole. Sparke rode {he pony with great confidence and he outjumped the whole field at every obstacle.

Bull Run, ridden by White, ran just as last year, following the favourite home, but it was noticeable that he jumped much quicker than he did last year and there was none of the slowing up that had lost him so much ground in previous races. Hailar was beginning to tire when they got near to the winning post and D'Arcy Irvine had to ride his very -hardest as Kings Jubilee was coming up tt.

Ras Abdul, Brand's mount, justi-fled his favouritism in the 'Z' Class Champions by winning comfortably by three lengths, though he did not look ab all anxious to go much further, his tail going round and round in a very 'I've had enough manner.'

Hayes had rather upset calculations by putting Crosthwaite up on Siboar, to -take advantage of his 10 lb. jockey allowance, and therd were many who thought this might enable the pony to win, as he has shown that he is not without speed with a lightweight up. He cut out the pace for most of the journey, but, passing the Monument, it was seen that Brand was going very easily on Ras Abdul and half the way down the straight he came away to win by three lengths from Siboar, with the second favourite, Noknok (R. B. Moller) four lengths away, third.
