Morgan had kept Blue Ridge in the lead as long as he could, but once over Morriss' he was dead tired and Kings Jubilee was able to get up in time to pip him for third place.
The novice race attracted eleven starters and was won by the favourite, Cherrybey, ridden by Robertson, who pulled him into the middle of the straight to take advantage of the better going. Striker was second on his good money spinner Sundridge Park with another owner-jockey, Perske, third on Duke of York.
The half mile went to the biggest outsider of he day—Dolce Farniente—who was sent out at the start by Morgan and was never-headed, beating the favourite, Steve Brodie, by three quarters of a length.. Morgan tried the same tactics in the next race on Kanoungtoe, who was pursued by Huntley Watch up to the Monument, where he forged ahead to go on and win comfortably by four lengths, from Going Slow and Don Victor. Gram rode the winner, this being the first of his four successes during the afternoon
