Many owners and others interested in our local sport of racing, made their way through the heavy fog yesterday morning to be at the Shanghai track at daylight, to witness the training work of the ponies likely to be starting on Saturday. But the majority must have been disappointed, for the fog lay right over the track until well after 7 am. making it almost impossible to see the ponies at work, or to time their mile, gallops unless starting from the 1%
However, during the morning I was able to follow some of the gallops, getting times done by a few of the ponies that may be considered as likely winners on Saturday:
One of the best, if not the best I saw done during the morning, was the mile of Merry Jester (CE) who with Merry Hero (boy) did his distance in 2.14.1, last quarter 31. On this performance, Merry Jester should be a winner on Saturday, whether he starts in the mile, taking on Frostylight 6 lb. up, Night Express, and others, or goes in the 1% mile where he would have to meet Gold Vase, Mou Tan Hua, and Duke of Kent,
