War Veterans Gather Together

King and Queen's Visit Observed by British, American Ex-Servicemen

Since the Great War, when British "Tommies" and American "Doughboys" fought together on the battle fields of Flanders, the traditional friendship between these two great rations has been demonstrated in many ways to the whole world. Yesterday the fact that the two peoples are bound by inseparable ties was brought home as never before with the first visit to Amárican soil of the reigning British sovereign and his Queen Consort.

In Shanghai, too, this friendship was graphically illustrated at the Shanghai Race Club last night with the words, "We sincerely hope that there will never be another world war but should this be forced upon us you will find the Yanks in the first-line trenches side by side with you." These words, which were greeted with loud cheers were spoken by Mr. Thurman B. Hyde, Commander of the Frederick Ward Post of the American Legion, during a reception given by the United Services Association, Shanghai, to members of the American Legion and all American ex-servicemen and their wives in commemoration of the visit of the King and Queen to the U.S.A.
