Several months after the end of the conflict, the battalions of the detachment were dissolved and the Seventeenth Regiment of the Mixed Colonial Infantry created. By January 1, 1935, when the local situation did not require all the regiment for the defence of the Concession, most of the troops were withdrawn from this city, and the garrison reduced to one reinforced battalion of infantry, which received the name of Mixed Colonial Infantry Battalion in China.
A year later, on January 1, 1936, this battalion was attached to the 16th Regiment of Colonial Infantry, the main body being stationed in Tientsin. Having received the name of the 2nd Battalion of that regiment, it was composed of four companies of light infantry, a machine-gun company, a mechanised unit and a tank section. Of these one company is detached to Hankow and a second to Canton.
