A hint that the tariffs imposed on Japanese goods in Central China would shortly be subjected to a downward revision was given by a spokesman of the Foreign Office this morning.
The spokesman was very evasive when asked to clarify the statement ut the Premier, Prince Konoye. in he Lower House yesterday that Jabin would not "evacuate even an uch of Chinese territory now occupied by the Japanese forces."
All he would do was to forecast that the North China regime and the ^ne to be established in Central China would eventually be as independent as Manchoukuo.
In the course of his statement yesterday, Prince Konoye said that the Japanese Government was planning to exploit the industrial and economic resources of the occupied area in China.—Reuter.
