Seaforths Open

"The Seaforth opening batsmen gave every indication of a high score when they started off confidently against Kellner and P. Madar, Singles were snatched at every opportunity, and but for the keeness of the fielding many more runs would have been given away. Lieuts. Maclagan and Poyntz left within a few minutes of each other, to be followed by Chaplin; and it was not till Cheney joined the wicket-keeper that the score mounted et a faster rate. The pair showed contempt for Kellner's deliveries, but Madar was becoming more deadly every over, and both batsmen fell in quick succession, From six wickets for 104 at five minutes past six the remaining batsmen were mesmerized into playing with no sense of caution, and the Colts skipper made short work to end the match: just- before the clock struck. The main feature of the game was the brilliant fielding Of both sides, with Madar's catch to dismiss Knowles the best of the day.

S.C.C, v. Utilities The prolific stand of 145 runs between L. F, Stokes and Lieut, J. Manners, R.N. placed the Club side in an almost unbeatable position when the skipper declared at the tea interval. Despite every effort to dislodge the pair runs came at a fast rate, and six changes in the attack made little difference, The Utilities scored their initial success through Graham, who yorked A. V. T. Deane when the.score stood at only 24. Both opening batsmen had displayed the utmost caution, and the entry of Leonard Stokes was the signal for the field to widen and the extreme men to retire to the tapes. Stokes set to immediately, and completely overshadowed his partner, who continued to be content with the odd single. Cutting and driving, the Club skipper gave no quarter, and runs would have been added far more quickly had the fielding not been of the very best. At 66 Duckitt was retired after a patient E. R. Duckitt, 1.b.w, Wood 15 A. V. T. Deane, b. Graham 15 L. F. Stokes, c. Jenkins b. Lingard 109 Lieut. J. Manners, c. Graham b.
