Interesting Race Off Woosung

Ella Wins Vice-Commodore — Cup for *A" Class, With Ingomar 2nd, Rover 3rd

Ella, sailed by Dr, J. H. Blakelock, n the Vice-Commodore's Cup for Class in the race sailed over a long course to Quarantine Buoy and return yesterday. Ingomar with D. McPherson at the tiller was second and Rover sailed by S. Godkin took third place. Weather conditions for the race were not at all promising in the morning, there being scarcely sufficient wind to take the yachts up to the line, but when Woosung was reached a fine wind sprang up and the race became really interesting írom then onwards.

The morning's race saw Ella going off to a fine start and she had established a good lead over the others before they had reached the line. Spook was well up in front of Viking and Rover with Ingomar badly left, There was very little wind and the yachts drifted practically all the way downriver, with a light following breeze to ist them. Just off the pipe line at Woosung the wind suddenly chang direction and blew fairly well with the result that the fleet started to move rapidly and the remainder of this leg of the contest was sailed under interesting conditions.
