Filipino Mohammedans To Return Home Fled to Borneo Many Years Ago

Manila, June 14.

Repatriation of 5000 Filipino Moros (Mohammedans) from Borneo, where they took refuge half a Century ago to escape the Spanish regime in the Philippines, is sought by the National Assemblyman, Sr. Adji Gulami Rasul of Sulu.

The only Moro member of the Philippine National Assembly, Sr Rasul said several thousand Moros were compelled to seek refuge in Borneo during the closing years of the Spanish regime and the early days of the American occupation because of unsettled conditions in "Moroland.

"When the Spanish forces and subsequently the American troops launched campaigns against the Moros in Sulu, many Moros fled to Borneo and settled along the coast,"

Rasul said. "Although they practically severed all connections with their motherland, the majority of them are now desirous of returning to the Philippines."

Sr. Rasul announced he planned to visit Borneo shortly to investigate conditions of the Moros living there. Upon his return, he said he would submit his firelings to Commonwealth President Manuel L. Quezon along with his plan for repatriating them.—United Press.
