Saragossa, July 28.
The importance of the present Republican ocensive near the Mediterranean coast, which has already resulted in important gains for the Government forces, is emphasized by the reluctance of the Nationalists to give details of their operations.
It is known, however, that heavy aviation reinforcements have been rushed to the Ebro front, where the Republicans have crossed the river at several points, and that they are continually bombing pontoon bridges, several of which are claimed to have been destroyed.
The Republicans are said to be receiving considerable assistance from villagers sympathetic to their cause. Nevertheless, the Nationalists claim that a Republican division has been completely wiped out.
On the other hand, it is. officially claimed in Barcelona that the cit of Gandesa has been surrounded by the Republicans and that 4000 prisoners, all of them Spaniards, and much war material have been taken.
