Thousands of additional British troops from the Battle of Flanders landed throughout the day here yesterday after escaping hundreds of bombs directed at British evacuation ships by huge squadrons of German bombers. Among the troops arriving yesterday were many soldiers who had been fighting on the front lines the previous night.
The returning soldiers were carried in all classes of ships. Young and old merchant marine sailors manned every variety of boat, including barges, tugs and paddle steamers to assist in the evacuation of northern France and Belgium.
