Retreat Made a Triumph

"The English have shown a spirit which transformed retreat into something like triumph. But the important feature of the rescue of the Allied armies is that they have a chance to fight another day.

"Losses suffered are doubtless very great but German losses are no less and perhaps greater. One has now reason to doubt, after the tremendous sacrifice hitherto, whether Germany can continue a lightning advance."

The "Stocktid" Berlin correspondent writes: "German losses in the Flanders battle now are very high as German military circles report they are very much higher than during the actual offensive through Holland and Belgium."
