Sermon Preached in the Church of Christ the King by Rev. Leo F. McGreal, S.J., on April 3
'E have passed another mile-stone of life. Another year has rolled by, and we are once again gathered here in this sanctuary dedicated to the Most High to begin our annual mission, Our spiritual retreat in preparation for the glorious feast of pur Lord's Resurrection. The past year has been freighted with trials, sufferings and disasters, but it has not been without its graces and blessings. Many of you are painfully aware of the fact that if it were not for the merciful protecting hand of a loving Father you would not be in a position to take advantage of kho graed offered you at this time of making your annual retreat.
The motive of gratitude and thanksgiving should keep us faithful to ihe resolution we have made of doing well what we have begun.
The time draws near when we commemorate the Passion and Death of our divine Saviour, and in order to enter more fully into the spirit of that sublime mystery of love and sacrifice, we are going to spend this week in prayerful and serious consideration of the fundamental truths of our holy religion. We know that God is always with us, that He is always willing and ready to give us the grace and strength that we need to work out His established plan for the salvation of our immortal souls. But there are times when God seems ito be more generous than usual; times when He seems to urge upon us His special gifts; times when He seems to spur us on to greater effort, to greater sacrifices, to greater love and charity in our all important struggle for the crown of eternal life.
