British Military Interest

London, Apr. 8.

Military circles are watching batties in the Tientsin-Pukow sector very closely, Earlier Chinese claims of Successes in that area have been accepted with some reserve, but it is now believed that the Japanese have undoubtedly suffered bad reverses at Taierchwang, which, it is pointed out, constitutes a dangerous salient between the railway and the Grand Canal.

The activities of Chinese guerilla bands in the Hangchow and Shanghai area are also drawing attention, as they are evidently incommoding the Japanese, whose continued silence on war operations is generally regarded as the best confirmation of the Chinese claims, The "Birmingham Post" says today that China, partly by massive inertia which has defeated many aggressors and partly by the belated discovery of her military talent and national unity, seems to have made it clear that Japan can only dominate even a third of China at a cost and at sacrifices which the Japanese nation can hardly afford and will hardly endure,
