The probable shortage of sugar for August delivery is now estimated in Java sugar circles at 100,000 tons. As Java has already filled its export quota for the second convention year, which expires at the end of August, the direct advantage to the island of this shortage will not be great.
The present sales from the additional quota of 62.606 tons. The small balance remaining will possibly sell at higher prices, but the resulting advantage will be unimportant.
