Amusement Centre:
Protest from Av. Haig the Editor of the "Noren-Cuxa Dany News"
SmI would very much appreciate your kindness in publishing this letter as it concerns not only myself and family but many families in the neighbourhood of Route Boissezon, Avenue Haig and Route Ferguson.
understand that the French Municipal Council has granted a license to Chinese interests to open up the old Majestic Gardens site on Avenue Haig, between Route Boissezon and Roule Ferguson, to be run amusement centre. I believe they Intend having a swimming pool, dance hall and roller skating rink. An advertisement has already appeared in Chinese papers for Chinese dancing Partners. This alone would indicat that the place is to be run more or less as a cheap cabaret.
This location, in my opinion, is one fof the best residential districts in the French Concession and it seems a shame that the French Municipal Couneit would issue a license for Dance Hall, Swimming Pool and Roller Skating Rink in such a nice residential district.
My home is situated overlooking the Gardens and within about 50 feet of where the roller skating rink will be located. You can readily understand how impossible it, will be for my: family, and neighbours as well, to) fet their required rest.
Several years ago, a Dance Hall was opened on the same site and the French Municipal Council held up the license for some time due to the fact that the residents in this neighbourhood objected strenuously to this class of Joint being opened among them. Something should certainly be done this time to prevent a similar occur rence as it will cheapen the value of property within hearing distance of the Gardens as well as prevent a great umber of people from enjoying their earned rest.
