Mr. Ickes Attacks

Totalitarianism

Indirect Thrust at France And Great Bri Los Angeles, Oct. 20.

"Totalitarianism is on the march, and even in America is insidiously boring from within the temple of our liberties, as well as assaulting it from without," declared Mr. Harry Ickes, Secretary for the Interior, in a broadcast today, "We ought to be profoundly thankful" he added, "that America has not to go down as a suppliant on her knees to anyone except God to seek protection for this land from those who would ravage it.

"Our personal sympathies go to those other democracies which have suffered dismemberment, and even political death, at the hands of surgeons whose obliging assistants have been those who presided at the victim's birth, and guaranteed long life and happiness under their protecting care.

"If America has learned one thing from recent events" Mr. Ickes declared," she has been shown that she must depend on herself to protect her own liberties."—Reuter.
