Hankow, Oct. 28.
A denial of the British contention that six Japanese bombers made HMS. Sandpiper their objective in a raid on the Changsha area October 24 is contained in a communique issued by the Imperial Headquarters.
It presumes that splinters from bombs aimed at Chinese junks, which, it says, were the sole objective of the attack, accidentally hit the Sandpiper.
"Moreover, it says, Japanese planes belonging to another unit previously made a reconnaissance flight over the Changsha area and observed no signs indicating there were British gunboats there.—Reuter.
