270 Groups Are Formed to Represent Industry London, Aug. 14.
In a statement on the British Government's new measures for aiding export trade, Mr. Harcourt-Johnstone, Secretary for Overseas Trade, said the Export Council had hitherto formed about 270 export groups and, as a result, could claim for the first time in British history that each of the principal export sections of industry possessed a centralized, completely representative body for discussion and negotiation:
The primary objective of these groups was to provide the allocation of raw materials for firms manufacturing for export; secondly, to plan a common effort for export' and the pooling of any sacrifices that might be entailed in comparison with more normal times. It was really remarkable that in view of Britain's total war effort, they should nevertheless have been maintained in recent months.
