Alleged Improper Competition the Editor of the "Nonrit-Cuixa Dany News'

Si—Would you be so kind as to publish in your esteemed paper the following loiter as a protest to the Shanghai Municipal Council, We, undersigned Shanghai music-ans, who are not employed by the Shanghai Municipal Orchestra, wish to give a picture of a situation which has' been troubling us for so moly years, a well-known fact that' the members of the Shanghai Municipal Orchestra are very well paid and surely can live comfortably without having to earn extra besides their salary, But not satisfied with their good fortune of being members of the Orchestra, they accept outside posi: tions, thus depriving us of our bread and butler; at the same time being position to cut prices, they do so the extent that a musician who is not employed by the S, M, Orchestra barely able to keep soul and body toget present a_great part of thie Jmembers of the S. M. Orchestra have accepted positions in bands playing various night clubs and' other opportunities in this city at remunerations which in some cases almost equal to the salary they receive from the Orchestra, No other symphonic orchestra in the world allows their members to play swing music in night clubs; why should this be allowed in Shanghai?

We, non-members of the S. M. Orchestra, ask the Municipal Council in the name of justice and humanity to forbid their musicians to play in Joutside bands, so as to give to others chance to corn their living.

Hoping that our plea will not be in vain, 'Tue Suancuar' Mustexans, Jan Kent, P. U, Nicolitz, Volkov, 'Franz " Wagner,' Soboleft, A Gorbachenko, F. A, Zelensky, I.
