U.S. Paper Praises Admiral Hart

Firm Stand in Shanghai on Division of Sectors; New Reminder of Naval Power

Washington, Aug. 25.

The "Army and Navy Journal" yesterday said that "thanks to the firm diplomacy of Admiral Thomas Hart, Commander-in-Chief of the US. Asiatic Fleet, a crack in the open door to China has been saved from closure."

The Journal recalled that Admiral Hart insisted that control of the British sectors evacuated in Shanghai be divided between the United States and Japan instead of the latter assuming control alone.

Admiral Hart's arrival at Shanghai in a submarine before the defence commanders' meeting there was "a gentle reminder of our under water power in Asiatic waters," the Journal said.—United Press.
