Announcers' Errors

B.B.C. announcers are notoriously so precise and (the irreverent would "refaned" that it is pleasant to find that they are mortal too. One of them has just published an account of their various slips of the tongue, Thus an extract from Offenbach's "Orpheus in the Underworld" iwas announced as "Orpheus in the Underground" In a description of a volcanic eruption it was stated that "a large area of lager is approaching the village" And in an account of the equipment of London's mobile police, the B.B.C. announced that the|"Arrangements have been made for the police to change their combinations this winter."

But perhaps the best was the announcement, very impressively given after a musical selection, "You have just been listening to the Bathroom Orchestra from Pump."

Text read from the printed page and cleaned; old type leaves the occasional error.
