An eye-witness on the southeast coast could see British ships bombarding Calais "for all they were worth" as the German batteries pounded the British coast. The British warships were attempting 10 locate the German batteries, he said.
One eye witness remarked, "It seems that our bombing planes have been successful, for the German guns on the other side are now silenced."
They reopened fire, however, after a half hour of silence and sent over five shells in half as many minutes.
The Channel coast shook with terrifle explosions as the shells whistled geres the water and burst in England. Flashes could be seen stabbing across the Channel and shells could bbe heard tearing through the sky.
