The author does not lay too much stress upon the hideous practices whith slave dealing entailed, the raiding of unfortunate villages West Africa, the marching of extensive convoys of slaves to the coast, there maintained in barracoons for months on end awaiting ships, and ultimately their transport across the Atlantic to the West Indies and those portions of North America where the trade so rapidly grew. But it is interesting to note that while England may have been one of the first io deal with the slave trade, she was o one of the first to be convinced of sin, and long before England herself had brought about the complete liberation of slaves, she was busy doing her utmost to destroy the enormous trade which was being carried on between the West Coast of Africa and the other side of the Atlantic, The difficulties of total abolition were immense, for the more successful the British blockade of the West Coast of Africa became, the more valuable were the slaves, and there was a time when the success of the British blockade spurred the slaver to greater efforts because of the larger profits to be obtained.
