Ne Complaints

Every day of the week, including Sundays, the woman herself must be up at 630 to waken her billete on the day shift. I have heard no single word of complaint from this oman, who, not very long married, troops' arrival was short-lived, for yesterday there arrived, late at night and unheralded so that people could hardly believe it was true, a contingent of the men evacuated from Dunkirk. Hatless. some with their uniform torn, tired, but amazingly cheerful and' proudly showing the shrapnel they had brought back as souvenirs, they waited on the village green to be taken to their billets. One of them waved aloft a German sword. Goodness knows how he managed to bring it back for he had no scabbard for it.
