Shanghai Municipal Orchestra

First of Special Italian Concerts Given

This week's Municipal concert once again demonstrated this Orchestra's capacity, for putting over a programme of works of great musical interest and value. Three compositions made their bow to the Shanghai public and this fact serves to prove, if nothing else, these players' proficiency in the art of working hard, spurred on by a Maestro who is indefatigable this season. This concert was another special one, this time "After three hours of severe fighting,' the dispatch stated, "600 Japarese were killed, including the officers in the motor car. Thirty trucks were also destroyed. The Chinese finally withdrew in the face of an attack by the Japanese taniss," the dispatch concluded—Reuter.
