Lisbon Paper Thinks Idea Has Something In It Lisbon, Dec. 10.
The "Diane de Lisboa," independent Republican news organ, published an interesting commentary today upon the Hongkong despatch that appeared in the influential Japanese "Asahi" and which declared that if Portugal collaborated with Japan in the development of South China, Macao could become the most important port in the Far East.
Said this Lisbon newspaper, "The opinion of the "Asahi's' correspondent can have importance only if it corresponds with the thought already seen in the germ of the scheme and, above all, if it is based upon technical possibilities to be studied in advance.
Only then can the financial aspects, delicate in a case of this nature, be considered.
"We believe that the 'Asahi's' article voices an interesting opinion, but it is isolated and as yet in the future. We may recall however, that great works may one day find birth from isolated sketches of plans."—Havas.
