United Hockey XI Downs Soldiers

Smooth Attacks Prove Too Much for East Surreys To Withstand

By four goals to one, the United Hockey Club scored a sweeping victory over the East Surrey Regiment at the Race Course to maintain leadership in the First Division of the Shanghai Hockey League. The soldiers played hard but, in spite of scoring the first goal, failed to check the smooth concerted movements of the fast and clever opponents.

The United started off with only ten players. Yurieff was absent at outside-left in the first eight minutes to give the East Surreys a chance to take the offensive. The defence of Pate and Collaco as full-backs proved impregnable for the soldiers Wwere turned away time after time. Oliveira and Tony Fonseca stood cut in midfield play and constantly gave their forwards the support they needed.

At the 10-minute C.S.M, Gilbody drew first blood following a short corner. Goalkeeper Jones sù a hard drive from Capt. Clift but before the defenders could clear Gil-body ran up and converted a pretty shot.
