Nanking, June 28.

Chinese troops, which temporarily encircled the Japanese Umeki detachment near Tikang on the southern bank of the Yangtze in southeastern Anhwei, were routed with the aid of reinforcements and aeroplanes on June 24, Japanese commanders stated today.

The Umeki detachment landed at Tikang on June 18 and was surrounded by Chinese soldiers three days later.

On June 22 the Japanese Sueda detachment equipped with artillery landed at Tikang and broke through the centre of the Chinese positions in a drive to reach the besieged unit, the Japanese report said.

The final rout of the Chinese force took place on June 24 when the two Japanese units launched attacks with the assistance of aircraft—Domei.
