It fs something of a relief to learn that Warsaw is about to surrender, for undoubtedly the time had come when an end should be put to] fa struggle which could have had no victorious! Fegult for the Poles but only subject them to] the most hideous suffering. Of the gallantry of the defenders of Poland's capital there cannot] bbe the slightest doubt; it has been admitted the Germans themselves with reference to the Polish army, and emphasized by this resistance which has now come to an end. And they have this poor consolation that they did not have to yield to one enemy. alone, but in fact to two, for, if thad not been for the Russian invasion, the Polish forces might still have been making the German invaders pay heavily for their intrusion. They Were also completely outnumbered in the air, with but a few hundred machines against the thousands which the Germans sent against. them.
