Grenier, Mr. C. S. Franklin and others

The memorial bears a bronze plate on which appears the following inscription *Sacred to the memory of 305 officers and men of the British Army who died in defence of the Foreign Settlement 1862-1865. In order to secure from violation their last earthly resting place, the mortal remains of these officers and men were removed by the Shanghai Municipal Council from the original Soldiers' Cemetery adjoining the Wall of the Old Chinese City and re-interred here on October 3, 1939.—N.C.D.N.
