France Rounds Up More Communist Deputies

Distinguished Leaders Among Those Arrested

Paris, Oct, 10.

The round-up of Communist Deputies was continued today when two more arrests were made. Representing the Haut Rhin constituency, the two arrested men are members of the Parliamentary group identified with the autonomy programme for Alsace-Lorraine. Reasons for the arrests have not been divulged. The total number of arrested Communist Deputies is now 39.

The latest arrests include the brother of M. Jacques Duclos, Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies. He and five other well-known Communist leaders, for whom warrants have been issued, cannot be found. One of them, M. Andre Marty, who gained notoriety for leading the Black Sea revolt in the last war and participated in the Spanish civil war on the Republican side, is understood to be in Moscow. M. Maurice Thorez, secretary of the banned Communist Party, has been officially posted as a deserter, having failed to report to his unit on the expiry of his 24-hour leave-—Reuter.
