Ambassador to China, unex~ pectedly arrived here this morning at 7.45, by air from Hongkong. He' was accompanied by Sir Arthur Blackburn, the Chinese Counseller, and four other members of the Embassy staff.
Sir Archibald's_ movements were kept so secret that the British diplomatic mission here, and the Chinese Foreign Ministry, stated they had no formation of the date of his arrival. The Foreign Ministry said they understood the Ambassador was proceeding to Hanoi from Hongkong, and that he would not arrive at Chungking until next week.
Two Japanese scouting acro~ planes circled above the capital at 8 am. about the time when the British Ambassador arrived.
