Kiukiang, Jan. 18.
Several Britons at Kuling were alleged today to be jeopardizing the welfare of all the foreigners now remaining at the famous summer resort on Mount Lushan by giving assistance to Chinese guerillas and manifest an anti-Japanese attitude.
Ignoring the attitude of goodwill which the Japanese authorities have displayed toward the Kuling foreign colony, the Britons were alleged to be supplying the Chinese troops with food and clothing, helping them transport arms and provisions, and giving assistance in gathering information about the movements of Japanese troops surrounding the mountain.
Since January 16 Japanese detachments have been engaged in a vigorous mopping-up drive against 3,000 Chinese guerillas, who have been isolated on Mount Lushan and neighbouring hills for several months since the withdrawal of the main Chinese forces from the Yangtze valley region.
The action of the Britons alleged to be assisting the Chinese was regarded here as amounting to obstruction of the military operations of the Japanese forces, especially. in view of the fact that the Japanese now are carrying on a campaign to drive the Chinese out of their mountain strongholds surrounding Kuling.
