Shanghai, Oct. 9.
The Annual General Meeting of the "Shanghai United Hockey Club was held yesterday evening at the Foreign ¥.M.C.A. and preliminary plans for the season were drafted. The prospects for a successful season were extremely bright despite the fact that there is a strong possibility that the Anntial League will be suspended for another season.
It appears that the S.U.HC. will be folding only two teams this year owing to the great increase of the ground fee. Should it be decided at the Annual General Meeting of the 'Shanghai Hockey Association next Wednesday that a programme' of friendly fixtures be carried out this season, the United Club will divide their members into two teams of equal strength in order that the competition may be closer all round, As it was found that the rent of the Race Course grounds will be increased by about forty per cent, it was also found necessary to make a. slight increase in the "subscription. rates of the SU.H.C. On the other hand, in order to encourage hockey among the younger players, the junior membership fees were lowered.
Included among the routine matters, an election of oticers was held. 2 the following having been elected to serve during the coming season:—
K. M. Pate (Captain) E. V. Chantural (Hon. Secretary); J. Gilchrist (Asst, Hon, Secretary), 'S. P. Karan-Jia (ion. Treasurer).
The above committee were empowered {0 ce-opt any other officer to the committee.
'The United Hockey Club will be! putting in their first' bit of practice on Saturday, October 19, when the Race Course will be thrown open to play.
