90,000-Ton Super-Liner to Outdo Britain's New Ships Berlin, July 29.
Germany has decided to construct a giant liner to rival even the French. super-ship, Normandie, and the pride of the British merchant marine, the RAMS. Queen Mary.
This new vessel will displace 90,000 ions, thus being larger than any vessel in existence or in state of construction.—Britain's latest effort, the Queen Elizabeth which was to outsize the Normandie, will have to be content with second place if the Reich's plans are brought to a successful conclusion.
This German leviathan will be laid down in the Bremen Lloyd dockyards at Bremen towards the beginning of 1939, as soon as the new naval yards at Stettin are completed. When the latter are ready, they will be able to satisfy all of Germany's naval wants and other dockyards will then be able to concentrate on the building of merchantmen.—Havas,
