Gunman Escapes

It did not take long, however, to ascertain that no-one had been wounded. Police arrived from Louza Station and started to investigate the shooting, but they found that the gunman had fled. The empty cartridge-case was discovered and was taken to Police Headquarters for examination. It was from a 32- calibre pistol but the weapon from which it had been fired had no record in local crime, the investigation showed.

One explanation of the shooting given last night was that it was perpetrated by a Chinese who was angered at not having won anything substantial after having played one of the slot-machines in the place for some time.
