Tokyo, Nov. 20.
The second anniversary of the Imperial General Headquarters, which was established November 20, 1937, was celebrated by the Army Section today. The meeting was attended by Col. Prince Yasuhito Chichibu, younger brother of the Emperor; Fieldshal Prince Kotohito Kanin, Chief of the Army General Staff; Gen. Shunroku Hata, Minister of War; Lieut.-Gen. Shigeru Sawada, Assistant Chief of the Army General Staff; and other high-ranking Army officers. Prince Kanin admonished the army leaders to exert themselves to achieve the objective of the China campaign.—Domei.
The Settlement police were first notified of the affair at 7.30 pin. and a message to stop a car with licence number 8645 was circulated, foul play having been suspected when the circumstances of the kidnapping became known.
Detectives attached to Chengtu Road Police Station declined to make any statement as to the reasons for the kidnapping and with regard to the questioning to which Mr. Tsang had to submit It was believed, however, that the men responsible for the daring coup, one of whom was believed to have been armed, are connected with Mr. Wang Ching-wei's movement.
