Toronto, Sept. 9.
H. R. Pearce, of Australia, retained his title of world's sculling champion, when he beat his compatriot, E. Paddon, by eight lengths over a three-mile race in Lake Ontario today.
At the first mile Pearce led by two lengths. At the second mile he was five lengths ahead.
For the last mile Paddon spurted, rowing 30 strokes a minute to Pearce's 26, but he could make no impression and Pearce pulled away steadily to increase his lead yet another three lengths.
Pearce's time for the distance was 20 minutes 354 seconds.
