Still Being Awaited

London, Sept. 14.

The concensus of opinion in City circles was that Herr Hitler's speech had done little or nothing to relieve the prevailing international political tension, and, consequently, operators in all markets continued. to adopt a very cautious attitude yesterday.

Well-informed quarters pointed out that, pending clarification of the outlook, any resumption of normal activity both in the Stock Exchange and the commodity markets would be virtually impossible.

Lack of any degree of unanimity in interpretation of current events by business interests was reflected in yesterday's dealings at the fixing of ihe London gold price. Only 208 bars valued at £601,000 were dealt in, all of which were supplied by Continental re-sales, while arbitrageurs, who on Monday morning were reluctant to operate, yesterday Purchased more freely, thus leaving only a negligible amount of gold to be absorbed by the authorities—Reuter.
