Preston North End, holder of the F. A. Cup, was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the competition today by Portsmouth, who triumphed by the only goal of the match.
Huddersfield, finalists last year drew at home against the Blackburn Rovers, the only junior team left in the contest, by 1-1.
Wolverhampton scored a handy win at home against Everton, by 2-0, while Grimsby Town beat Chelsea by 1-0.
All four home teams triumphed in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup. Motherwell beating Celtic by 3-1 Aberdeen beating Queen ai the South by 2-0, while Hibernians defeated Alloa by 3-1 and Clyde eliminated Third Lanark by 1-0.
