Wa ton, Mar. 4.
There is no confirmation here of the newspaper suggestion that Mr. Claude G. Bowers, the United States Ambassador to Spain, who sailed for America from France today on [board the Queen Mary, has been recalled as the first step towards recognition of General Francisco Franco's Spanish Nationalist regime by the United States.
Mr. Bowers is stated to be returning for consultation, as other Amba: sadors, including Mr. J. P. Kennedy (London), Mr. William C. Bullitt (Paris) and Mr, Hugh. Wilson (Berlin), have done in recent months.
Should the Republican zone surrender unconditionally, recognition of General Franco's regime by the nited States would become a neces sity, but Washington understand: that the resistance of the Republicans still continues.
The newspapers here publish a Jist of the nations which have not yet recognized the Spanish National Government, and among them are the British Dominions except An tralia, The prevailing sentiment here s not stich as to encourage any haste over the question of recognition Reuter,
