Successful Show Held At Metropolitan Museum, New York Not often, it is safe to declare, are exhibitions such enormous successes re ever they open at all. Excitement.behind scenes at the Metropolitan Museum has, we now learn, been sustained at an extraordinarily high pitch for weeks. "The fisherman who opened a water bottle ard released a dunn ern hardly have been more stunned," confides Alan Priest, curator of Far Eastern art, in the "New York Times."
It was Mr, Priest who organized the recent exhibition of ancient Chinese bronzes, "any one of which," he says, "has inherent in its shape and design something of the people who made it and something of the religion and the beliefs that inspired it." So generous was the response of American museums and collectors, once they learned what was afoot, that the unpacking room at the Metropolitan became—well, it became what it had never been before, that is certain.
