To Justify Coup

Nazi Press Tries — Imperialist Action — For Precedents

Berlin, Mar. 16.

Germany is not surprised to learn that the liquidation of Czechoslovakia has given rise to a storm of indignation in the press of the democratic countries, writes the "Voelkischor Beobachter" this morning. The same thing has occurred at every phase of the National Socialist policy. This resounding criticism will be received n Germany with frigid indifference almost without exception it makes no attempt to grasp the significance of the developments in Central Europe.

The Western countries, adds the National Socialist Party organ, would do well to turn over the pages of their own history where they will find examples not at all unlike the case of Czechoslovakia.

The English fought the Scots, Irish and Welsh for centuries until they got these peoples of alien race merged in union with their kingdom. Only 40 years ago the Boers in South Africa were deprived of their liberty by the British whose only motive was that provided by their policy of colonial imperialism, this German comment declares.

Germany knows very well, concludes the "Voelkischer Beobachter, that the disfavour with which every step towards a consolidation of the Reich is regarded abroad arises out of fear engendered by every increas in power. This fear psychosis would be completely unnecessary if the Democratic Powers followed Italy's example and got on sensible term: with the Reich.—Trans-Ocean.
