In Collision

Hongkong, Mar. 30. The P. & O. liner Canton collided with the French vessel Marechal Joffre at 9 this morning. The collision, which is not believed to be serious, occurred north of Hongkong in a dense fog.

The Marechal Joffre sent a radio message that she was returning to Hongkong. The new French Ambassador to China, M. Henri Cosme, is aboard the French ship.

The Canton is not expected to arrive here before the morning, owing to fog, together with the damage suffered in today's collision. The vessel is taking in water, but does not require assistance. It is suggested that the P. & O. steamer Chitral, which is at present in Hongkong, may take over the Canton's schedule, sailing homewards instead of northwards, but this is at present unconfirmed.—Reuter.
